A French affair

On an overcast day on the estate of the sixteenth century stone manor- Le Manoir, the culmination of a love story plays out. Witnessed by friends and family, Claire and Matt marry in front of a nationally significant Pigennoir. The couple take their style cues from the typically relaxed Southern French lifestyle. It’s a romantic and laid-back affair, with guests to meander from the Manor house gardens and Pigennoir to the stone buildings as the celebration unfolds. A stunning location, Le Manoir was once a Knights Templar and is an important heritage site in the countryside of the Dordogne, in the South West of France.

From the moment I arrived for Claire and Matt’s photos, it was clear this was going to be a fun and love-filled affair. Laughter and warmth filled the rooms as the bride and groom prepared, and it was a pleasure to capture the smiles, friendship and warmth of the intimate pre-ceremony moments and the obvious love and celebration throughout the ceremony.

My photography brief? To capture key moments with candid and natural style, from more traditional moments through the ceremony to candid shots at the reception. It is always important in imagery to convey the mood and details of the day, especially for the couple, who often don’t have time to fully appreciate all the details they’ve so carefully selected for their day; the location and grounds, a vintage car, an abundance of wild and exotic flowers, specially selected wines and gourmet food, decor and illuminated table settings. Not to mention the human moments; those emotions you hold on to with honest and natural photography.

A relaxed joy-filled ceremony in the grounds of the stone country manor house was followed by a lively and fun barn style reception with live band, speeches and a candle lit gourmet spread of dinner, cheese and wine. Despite overcast weather and a few drops of rain, guests enjoyed the warmth and romance of the day from morning till night, witnessing love, thoughtful details and historic spaces with frivolity and joy.

This beautiful French wedding made the most of a stunning location to celebrate love and happiness for all attending. The details of the day were so thoughtfully considered and the energy and enthusiasm for this couple was palpable. It is my pleasure to share just a small selection of the myriad of beautiful photos with you.
