Lost in time in a French medieval village on the banks of the Averyon River, we capture a timeless mood; the essence of ‘La Vie en Rose’. Channelling a state of joy and happiness we explore ancient stone laneways, authentic cafes and the charm of traditional brasseries during a personal branding shoot in my home village in the South West of France.
My portraiture subject, a Russian named Olga, now feels like a life-long friend. A Moscow native, she teaches and translates Russian and French in Paris. Speaking three languages with fluent ease, she lives a cosmopolitan life many only dream of, translating for couples getting married in picturesque locations across France while calling Paris home. In celebration of an important birthday we created these beautiful, timeless portraits reflecting her personal and professional style. In addition to creating treasured images to celebrate this key milestone in her life, she will use the imagery to build her profile and visibility as French based translator.
I loved the creative direction of this shoot; it was truly a joy to photograph Olga; a kindred spirit and a lover of jazz, art and interiors. Olga’s stylistic brief payed homage to her European heritage and fondness for bygone eras, while retaining her modern, worldly energy, as we meandered through village scenes of daily life. The portraits are timeless, taking inspiration from an era when women such as Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn oozed style with (seemingly) effortless ease. Though nodding to eras past, the shoot retains a sense of modernity that pervades the otherwise timeless scenes.
